Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

Info on cover artists

Thanks for the submission containing the speculations about who the cover artists might be for The Space Barbarian / The Eyes of Bolsk. The verifier of the record agrees and it was accepted. I must point out that the information should have been presented in the notes field of the record instead of the cover artist field. That field must contain the name(s) of the artist(s) only. This makes the record searchable and places the record on a particular person's page. Any information other than the names should be placed in the notes field. Hello, Thank you for the kind welcome. It is all a little overwhelming .. I guess as any galactic-sized reference data source must be. Sorry it took so long for me to reply here, but I was getting conflicting sign-in data... which is probably a curiosity native to my machine and browser interface ... and did not want to jump in willy-nilly. That being resolved, here I am. I have read your comments with satisfaction .... and humility .... resolving in the future to abide by the necessary strictures of data entry ... which is all fairly new to me ... file card sort of person that I am.

I had a bit of difficulty finding the proper note field .... my apologies for placing unwanted entries in the wrong place - or should that be wrong entries in the right space? I will get used to this ... but space is ... so huge and daunting. But I must complement all who have contributed to this wonderful resource and especially heart-felt kudos to the originator(s) ...simply wonderful.

I am in here nearly every day accessing one nugget of information or another.

Artists credit

The artist field is only used for the cover artist. (Use the "add artist" tool if more than one artist did the front cover.) For interior artwork, you should create a content record. Please see this page on updating publication records. Thanks. MHHutchins 16:50, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Serials and (Compete Novels)

Concerning the comments in your submission to update the title record of The Time Axis (Complete Novel): when a work of novel-length fiction (40,000+ words) is published in one issue of a magazine, it is entered as serial so that it can be displayed on the author's summary page as a novel instead of short fiction. By adding the "(Complete Novel)" appendix we're acknowledging that it was published in one issue and not actually serialized. I admit this sounds counter-intuitive, but it began as a software work-around that is now a standard. Here's how it is explained in the help page:

Magazines: Serial installments of a work are always given the date of the magazine in which they appear even if the work has been published previously in book or serial form. Novel length works (40,000+ words) printed as a single installment in a magazine are treated as serials and given the date of the issue in which they appear; the Title Type is "Serial" and the text "(Complete Novel)", preceded by a space, is appended to the title. See "Beyond This Horizon" (by Robert A. Heinlein) for an example of a novel which was published as a multi-part serial, a book, and then as a single installment serial.

Notes in title records or pub records

I rejected the submission adding notes to the title record of The Time Axis, because I believe they were specifically intended for this publication of the title. Notes in the title record should apply to all publications of that title, while notes that are specific to one particular printing or edition of that title should be placed in that publication's pub record. Yes, there's only one publication of this title, but just in case there's a future printing, we don't want any confusion about which edition the note refers to. The info about the interior illustration is already in the pub record. Please feel free to add any further info to that pub record's notes. Thanks. MHHutchins 18:08, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Entering non-genre magazines

I've accepted the submission adding this record, but made changes based on the rules governing the entry of non-genre magazines, which you'll find here. This includes changing the credit in the editor field, and removing the cover art credit. I also added the date of the issue in the title field, and added a separate content record for the story's illustration, adjusting the notes accordingly. Also, the synopsis you gave was for the story, not for the publication Synopses for stories should be added to that story's title record, not the publication record.
