In cases like this it's much easier to import the existing titles into the publication record after it has been approved by a moderator by using the "Import Content" link on the publication record's page. Which means that it's a 2-step process: first you enter the publication as usual but ''omit'' all titles which already exist in the database. The second step is to import the existing titles into the publication. See chapter [[Help:Screen:ImportContent|Import Individual Titles]] on the Import Content wiki page.

Welcome!

Hello, Kurst, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:22, 13 November 2017 (EST)

Moorcock Novels

I accepted your submission and fixed them. The results are: here, here, and here. In order to add a new publication, please use the "Add New Novel" (or other type) link instead. The information you entered in the new variant notes field, belongs in the publication entry instead. Once the new publication is accepted, it can then be varianted to the correct title. As your notes indicated you have the publications, please double check the records and verify them. You may also upload a cover image.

We do appreciate your submission. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:22, 13 November 2017 (EST)

Thank you very much for the welcome and the help with my submissions. I appreciate it a lot. It was that very help page (getting started) that refered me to Help:How to enter translations - where the instructions are to enter a translation of an existing novel as a "Variant". I will leave a note about this on the Help desk pages to ask for an update of that help page according to your instructions. -- Kurst 23:14, 13 November 2017 (EST)
Those instructions are not the clearest. They are talking about how the fields should be formatted and the translations relationship to the original work. It really isn't covering how to enter the work. After you get some experience entering records, feel free to make your own changes to the help. Those of us who have been here awhile aren't always the best at recognizing the gaps since we already know it. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:00, 15 November 2017 (EST)

Aetherhertz

Welcome! I accepted your submission but had to make some changes (considerably few). The cover image had to be dropped because it links to a site we don't have permission to link to. If you have an image at hand, you may want to upload it to our server.

I also trimmed the title and the series: As the subtitle rephrases the series title, we usually don't enter it. Also, I dropped the 'Trilogie' part of the series' title. As time has shown, there is very often a deviation from an author's intention for a fixed number of titles, and it also doesn't add a very useful information. I hope you can live with that. Thanks for becoming active, anyway. Stonecreek 13:46, 17 November 2017 (EST)

Hello Stonecreek! Thanks for the welcome. I have absolutely no problem with those edits, as these were the parts I was not so sure of myself. Unfortunately I only realized that the image link was not one with permission after submission (I had it from Amazon, but from a bad area it seems) --Kurst 15:30, 17 November 2017 (EST)

Die vier Mondbrüder

Hi, I approved your submission for Die vier Mondbrüder, but there are a few changes necessary now because you submitted some stories for which we already have a database record. If you do something like this, there will be two records for the same work afterwards which have to be merged into one record subsequently.

In cases like this it's much easier to import the existing titles into the publication record after it has been approved by a moderator by using the "Import Content" link on the publication record's page. Which means that it's a 2-step process: first you enter the publication as usual but omit all titles which already exist in the database. The second step is to import the existing titles into the publication. See chapter Import Individual Titles on the Import Content wiki page.

One exception from this is when the already existing title is a translation but has been translated by a different translator. In such a case you don't import the existing title but enter it as a new one when submitting the publication.

Since we now have a few redundant titles they have to be merged. See Merging Titles for how it works. Do you want to try it yourself? Jens Hitspacebar 09:34, 18 November 2017 (EST)
