London. Active from 1829 to 1898, when it was taken over by Macmillan & Co. In its later years, known as Richard Bentley & Son.

Henry Colburn was a partner until 1832, and his name may appear in early works by this firm.

Starting in 1837 published Bentley's Miscellany, edited for the first three years of its existence by Charles Dickens. Oliver Twist first appeared in this magazine. Later published such notable authors as Wilkie Collins, R. H. Barham, Theodore Hook, Isaac D'Israeli, and Judge Haliburton.
