Ligotti's The Shadow at the Bottom of the World

Thanks for adding contents information to The Shadow at the Bottom of the World! One thing to keep in mind is that every "Novel" Publication record needs to contain a "Novel" Title record. Similarly, every "Collection" Publication record needs to contain one "Collection" Title record in addition to its contents Titles. One extra catch is that the software hides the "Collection" Title record when editing Collection Publications. It's not a conspiracy, it's just trying to prevent editors from making mistakes in its clumsy way :)

When converting a Novel Publication to a Collection (which is what needed to be done in this case), we have to convert the associated Title record to "Collection" as well. Unfortunately, it's easy to overwrite the Novel Title record with one of the contents records (stories, essays, etc) instead, a very common mistake for new editors to make. If that happens, there won't be a Collection Title record for the Publication and it will not be displayed on the author's Summary Bibliography page. We usually catch these issues at approval time and re-add a Collection Title record manually, which is what I did in this case. Not a big deal, we all go through this at first :-) Thanks for editing! Thanks for pointing that out. However, I still don't understand what precisely caused the problem. How can I avoid this happening in the future? Von Kupfer 11:01, 21 Nov 2007 (CST)
The specific problem was overwriting the pre-existing Novel Title record with an Essay record. It should have been changed to a Collection Title record instead and the Essay record added separately. As I said, it's not a big deal, we all make this mistake at first :) Ahasuerus 16:17, 21 Nov 2007 (CST)

Clarke's Ladies of Grace...

Your proposed update to this publication changed the length of the individual content records to "shortfiction". Shortfiction is the type. Length refers to one of three options: ss for short story, nt for novelette and nv for novella. It appears that all of the stories have been designated a length, so I'm not sure of the intention of your update. You can respond here on your talk page as I've placed a watch on it and will know that you've responded. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 16:13, 6 Dec 2007 (CST)

Weird, I have no idea how that happened. All I was trying to do was add an entry for the illustrations. Von Kupfer 07:00, 7 Dec 2007 (CST)
Hm, sounds like a possible software glitch; wonder if it's recreatable. Ahasuerus 11:41, 7 Dec 2007 (CST)
I tried re-creating it when I received the original submission. I could find no way to get "shortfiction" in the length field. Weird indeed. Mhhutchins 20:40, 7 Dec 2007 (CST)
Just tried it again. This time it seems to have worked as it should (as far as I can tell from the response). Von Kupfer 07:59, 8 Dec 2007 (CST)
