John Spencer & Co. was a London-based publisher set up in 1947 by Samuel Assael (born 1920), who did buisness under the name "John Spencer". Initally published mainly pulp SF magazines, later published much paperback fiction, including much SF. The firm continued in operation until the late 1970s, although the Badger imprint (much the largest part in the later 1950s and early 60s) apparently ceased operations in 1967. A vendor's listing states that the Badger name was first used in 1954.
